Venue self-exlusion

01. Pubs, clubs, hotels, and TAB outlets in Queensland

It may be helpful to self-exclude from venues, pubs, clubs, hotels, and TAB outlets across Queensland. A venue self-exclusion can help you regain control of your gambling, and manage urges in places that might be triggering.

Length of ban: Up to five years; takes effect immediately.

Ban may apply to: Entire venue, gaming machine area, gambling activity (such as Keno or TAB), or a combination of these. You may still enter other areas of the venue, such as the bistro or dining areas, for the duration of your exclusion.

To self-exclude in-person:
  • At the venue, ask to speak to the Customer Liaison Officer or the venue’s self-exclusion assistant.
  • This person will provide you with the correct forms and the contact details of your local Gambling Help service.
  • You will be required to complete a self-exclusion notice (Form 3A) and provide a recent photo of yourself.
  • Your details will be recorded and you will be provided with a completed self-exclusion order (Form 3B).
  • The self-exclusion will take effect immediately.
To self-exclude without having to enter the venue:

Gambling Help can assist you in self-excluding remotely from one or more venues; that way, you don’t have to physically enter the venue.

  • A Gambling Help counsellor will help you to complete the self-exclusion notice (Form 3A) and an authority and identification form, which will allow Gambling Help to liaise with the venue(s) on your behalf.
  • The venue(s) of your choice will send a completed self-exclusion order (Form 3B) to you and to the Gambling Help service.
  • The self-exclusion will take effect immediately.

02. Casinos in Queensland

Length of ban: Up to five years; takes effect immediately.

To self-exclude from gambling at casinos:
  • Ask to speak to the Customer Liaison Officer or the person nominated by the casino to assist with self-exclusion.
  • This person will provide you with the correct forms and the contact details of your local Gambling Help service.

What happens if I break the terms of an in-person gambling self-ban?

If you enter the venue during the term of your exclusion, you’ll be asked to leave. The incident will be reported to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation for investigation, which may result in a fine. For repeated breeches, you can be prosecuted in court.

What happens if the venue breaks the terms of the gambling self-ban?

The venue must take reasonable steps to prevent you from entering the venue if you are excluded.

If the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation becomes aware that an exclusion order has been breached, the incident will be investigated and a fine may be issued to the venue.

Who will know about my gambling self-ban?

The venue is required to maintain a register of excluded persons. This register will only be accessible by staff who are required to be informed of exclusions.

The venue must otherwise keep your information confidential.

How can I cancel my gambling self-ban?

An application to revoke your self-exclusion from a venue can be made after at least 12 months from the date the exclusion was given to you.
